Another Week Bites The Dust!

One would think that after waiting for nearly 20 years for their dream dog, that three weeks wouldn't seem like such a bloody long time. Guess again. The seconds, minutes, hours, and days crawl by at a snail's pace. Anticipation continues to build, and Mike is finally as excited(if not more) than I am! Who'd have thought?! There has been one distinct positive to having so much time to wait before we get Puck, and that is the amount of research Mike and I are getting done in preparation. We will be capable of making educated decisions on what type of food to get, when to feed, how much to feed, when to exercise, how much exercise is needed, ect. I knew that Danes were a more demanding breed, but we have found out so much stuff that it would be very easy to overlook and never learn over the span of a dane's lifetime. We have started doggy boot camp for Bear so that he is ready for the puppy too! The different exercises we are working on came from "Be The Pack Leader" by Cesar Millan. I have been learning a lot about the difference between Discipline and Punishment, as well as the idea that human's often place human thoughts and emotions on their pet, which isn't fair to the animal because they are not human. I have been working at treating Bear like he is a dog that has instinctual needs and not like another member of the family with human needs. It's been 3 days so far and he already seems more at ease and much happier.(not to mention more obedient!) That's about it for the house update, now onto the puppy update! Kathrine sent me yet another picture(above). In this picture Puck(Copper) is 6 weeks old. He has grown about 3lbs since his last picture, and currently weighs 11.7 pounds! That's the skinny for now, there will only be two more of these updates before we are posting pictures of Puck in our home! Be well and thanks for reading!

Dreams Do Come True!

That's right, the time has finally come. After a very tedious couple days of constant poking, prodding, and a few well timed sneak attacks with overly adorable puppy pictures; Mike and I are welcoming a Great Dane to the family. While I'd like to think that the Oscar for 'Most Persuasive Performance of the Year' should go to me, I must give credit where credit is due. Thank you Katie for pleading my case better than I ever could, and thank you Kathleen for providing me with such cute pictures of your little guys and girls! With the hard part behind us, it didn't take long for Mike and I to decide which puppy we wanted(even though we'd honestly be happy with any of them). We picked a purebred Blue who will be named Puck after one of the characters from Glee, and we get to bring him home on July 24th! He is just over 5 weeks old and is already 9 pounds! We are both incredibly excited even though we have a ton of things to work on and learn in the next month. Not much else to say as of right now, so here's a picture of our boy at 5 weeks(taken today). The quality of the picture is not really up to my standards, though I am thankful the breeder is keeping us updated with recent photo's on a weekly basis until we pick Puck up so I will not complain. Not a lot anyways.
